For ten years, Joey was made to be the dumb one; the one with lofty dreams of being a real actor and working with big names. During those ten years while friends fought, broke up, got married, and had babies, there was one constant in their life that was pure, approachable, and gave the truth no matter how hard it was to tell it—and his name was Joey.

There might be some debate as to who the best friend was, but when push comes to shove, the most reliable friend there was in the show was Joey. He let his friends bend his ear, stood up for them when they were let down or pushed around, and always put their needs first. Joey was, and is, the best friend that anyone could ever have.

10 The One Where Monica Sings

Rachel Asks to Move In

After Rachel had Emma, she and Ross tried to make a living arrangement work for the sake of their daughter, despite the tumultuous past and deep recessed feelings for one another still lurking in the shadows. When their emotions flare up and lead to a huge fight, backed into a corner, Rachel retreats to Joey's apartment asking if she and Emma can move in.

Without a second thought, Joey agrees to have Emma and Rachel move in because immediately Joey is able to assess that his friend is in a bind. Without care for his lifestyle changes, Joey is willing to help a friend in need.

9 The One With Rachel's Phone Number

Joey Thinks Monica Is Cheating

When Joey gets courtside tickets to a Knicks game, he immediately asks Chandler to go with him when he's back in town from Tulsa. However, the game directly conflicts with Monica's ovulation cycle, and instead of telling Joey the truth, he lies and says that he has to stay in Tulsa.

However, Joey catches Monica scantily clad, he suspects that she is cheating and beckons Chandler to come home. While the beats of this episode are not the show's strongest, there is still something very endearing about a friend looking for his buddy's marriage.

8 The One After Joey & Rachel Kiss

Joey and Ross in the Airplane

After a lot of back and forth throughout the season, Joey and Rachel finally were given their big moment in the Season 9 finale. When Season 10 picks up, Joey and Rachel are enjoying their newly found bliss and are looking forward to continuing it back in New York.

However, before they can, Joey feels it's only right to tell Ross what is going on before they let things progress. This is a noble move made by a very noble friend, as he understands the importance of honesty in a friendship.

7 The One With the Inappropriate Sister

Joey Writes a Script

With Ross on sabbatical from the museum, after his outburst about his turkey sandwich, and Joey in between acting jobs, the two find themselves looking for a way to get through the days in a productive way. Ross introduces the idea of having Joey write a movie that is for him, instead of waiting for the right part to come along.

At first keen on the idea, Joey quickly falls behind in Ross' schedule and has to suffer the consequences, much to the dismay and chagrin of Chandler, who thinks Ross is being too hard on their friend. Now as Ross and Chandler begin to bicker, Joey uses this writing exercise to bring his two friends together with a small script allowing each of them to apologize to one another. It's kind of a sweet moment for the guys, as they see Joey unable to stand by while his two best friends are at odds with each other.

6 The One With Ross' Sandwich

Joey Keeps Secrets

Throughout Season 5, keeping Chandler and Monica's relationship a secret became a massive burden for Joey. Particularly, when Chandler and Monica began to test the boundaries of what Joey is willing to take the rap for.

It all comes to a head when Rachel mistakenly thinks that Joey has taken illicit photos of Monica. Embarrassed and looking to help unsully his good name, Joey is able to turn it around so that Monica looks like she is desperately trying to sleep with Joey one more time after a torrid affair in London. While all the friends are disgusted with Monica, Joey comes out smelling like a rose, but never waivers from keeping his friends' secret to himself.

5 The One Where They All Turn Thirty

Joey Kisses Phoebe

"The One Where They All Turn Thirty" is one of the brighter spots in an otherwise lackluster season. The episode chronicles each friend's transition from their 20s into their 30s, showing Monica get drunk before a big fancy surprise party at the apartment, to Phoebe looking to cross off a bunch of fun tasks off her list.

However, when Phoebe realizes that she's actually turned 31, she instantly gets down in the dumps about losing a whole year of her life. Unable to see his friend hurt, Joey runs to her and gives her a passionate and beautiful kiss, an item that was on her "before thirty" list. Taken aback by Joey's love and tenderness, he further helps her accomplish her list of meeting a Portuguese person, by telling her he was half-Portuguese.

4 The One With The Truth About London

Joey Pleads To Chandler

With Monica and Chandler's wedding fast approaching, they are still in need of someone to officiate their wedding, but they can't seem to find anyone. Looking to be a part of their special day, Joey offers to do it, despite some initial resistance from the couple. However, when Chandler discovers that on the infamous night that he and Monica first slept together, that she was actually looking to sleep with Joey, Chandler rescinds the offer to Joey and storms off.

Throughout the episode, Joey has been looking for the right words for this speech, dabbling in the minutia of having and receiving love, but when he has to talk some sense into Chandler not only does he reassure his best friend that he's got his best interest in mind, but that Monica is looking to be with him for the rest of their lives and that just fits so perfectly for them.

3 The One Where Rachel Goes Back To Work

Joey Coaches Phoebe

Looking to make a little extra money, Phoebe asks Joey if she might be able to be an extra on his soap opera Days Of Our Lives . Joey is excited to have his friend on the set. Once on the set, Phoebe holds up production as she can't move a tray from one side of the set to the other without shaking.

Joey pulls her aside and gives her the best pep talk, that she isn't Phoebe playing a role, but rather she is Nurse With Tray! Nurse With Tray needs to give the doctor this tray because if she doesn't, people will die. This works, and Phoebe nails her movement. Of course, when she can't transition appropriately into a new scene, Joey has to call security on her warning production that she won't go easy.

2 The One Where They're Going To Party

Joey Party's With Ross and Chandler

Ross and Chandler get a call from their old college buddy, Mike "Gandalf" Ganderson, a character that is never seen but a legend in his own right as he is notorious for being an epic partier. When Mike gets stuck in Chicago he calls and cancels, leaving Ross and Chandler beyond bummed. Seeing his friends down in the dumps, Joey decides to step in and party with his buddies in true Gandalf style. They quickly realize that they aren't the young kids they use to be and opt for having a quiet night at the coffee house with one another before going to bed at a reasonable hour.
